Scoop on the Coop

Mandi hosted an Elf Day during Christmas break with an Arctic animals study (Narwhals especially), New York City study (using this favorite book), Christmas crafts, toy inventions, and, of course, spaghetti candy buffet. Jessica finally got some down time to enjoy family peacefully (albeit sick).

Deschooling

Deschooling is a necessary process of reframing one’s mind about what “school” actually is for one’s own specific family. It’s pulling back and pausing to reconsider the definition of school, the schedule and structure of school, and the necessary content of school. Your homeschool does not need to look anything like the traditional school model that you know so well. Spending time to implement this process will enable you to customize the educational life that fits your child and preferred lifestyle best. To help with the transition into homeschooling, check out our post about tips for your first days of homeschooling.

To help with this process, check out episodes 29, 40, and 57. Consider setting up your homeschooling the way you want it using this Homeschool Starter Pack.

Coop Q & A

What is “Outschool”?

Outschool is an online platform for live Zoom classes led by an expert in that topic’s field. Classes can range from Harry Potter semester long classes to one 30 minute session about rabbit care. You can pay by class, by series, or by semester depending on the course. Academic subjects for enrichment are offered as well as language, gaming, escape rooms, and more. Our children love Outschool and searching on the website for the various topics of interest. To check out this educational platform, go to Outschool.com.
