Scoop on the Coop

Mandi’s kids dissected sheep brains for their human body unit study on the brain. It was a memory-making experience, using brains! We liked this sheep brain because reviews said it did not smell bad. And they were right! One thing lacking is that It does not come with educational or dissection tools. So we watched and followed a dissection YouTube video for kids and bought our own dissection tools (wash immediately - they will rust). If you plan far enough ahead of time though, this one comes with the educational chart and tools (although check the reviews for dissection tool quality).

Road Trip Do’s and Don’ts

We homeschool moms have been on a number of road trips, and some of them together! But this past summer, we both took road trips that were 2-3 weeks long. So we bring to you our top Do’s and Don’ts for road tripping with kids, with a homeschool spice! Here’s a few of the do’s we mention:

  • A tire repair kit is a great option to consider as a quick fix instead of changing a tire. Do take this repair kit with you!

  • Do bring a goody bag to give to your fellow travelers. You love them so why not show it! For more about that, check out our blog post: The Gift of the Goody Bag.

  • Do bring educational materials like Who Was or Where Is books, but don’t force structured learning where it might not be needed. Check out our blog post about this educational-rich book series.

  • Do bring a Bag O’ Fun. Make your own prior to going by using our guide!

  • Do play games prior to your trip to help arouse curiosity about your destinations. We enjoyed this game prior to heading off to a few national parks!
