What are Welcome to the Museum Books?

Each book presents a subject that is meant to be like walking through a museum. The books provide first an overview of the topic and then is broken up into exhibits. Each book is curated by an author working at a museum specializing in the topic. For example, Oceanarium is written by Loveday Trinick who is a schools officer at The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth, England. An illustrator masterfully takes each specimen and brings it to life. Each museum books pairs with an activity book that includes the same illustration style and enhances the learning opportunities within each book.

3 Reasons Why We Love the Welcome to the Museum Books

  1. Family Favorite Reference book - not only look beautiful on the shelf, but are wonderful to thumb through for fun or helpful in looking up something specific.

  2. Provides a sense of what going through a museum can be like in how the exhibits are organized and items are categorized.

  3. The activity book makes for excellent learning and work samples showcasing understanding.

How We Use the Welcome to the Museum Books

We primarily use our Welcome to the Museum collection as reference books on display to look through at any time or when specific questions come up that we think these books can answer. It’s nice to send our children to a book for the answer to a question rather than to the internet. We also use the books to pair with unit studies or other curriculum. In fact, we both used the Anatomicum book and activity book to enhance our Gather Round Human Body Unit Study.
