Fun Fables: Bedtime Stories with a Twist is a story-telling podcast show for kids. My kids have the best theatrical time together because of the Fun Fables podcast.

What is it?

  • Podcast show for kids that tells fables with a twist!

  • The author is a mom who started writing and recording these fun fables for her daughter in 2015, and then her son when he was born. Then, in 2020, she decided to turn it into a podcast, and keeps adding more stories weekly.

  • Story-teller uses different voices with entertaining expressions to tell classic fable stories in a different way

    • Witty, funny, embellished

    • Light-hearted, not scary at all, great for bedtime

    • Some stories are told from a different character’s perspective

    • Exaggerates certain characters, or adds in characters usually ignored, like the big-bad wolf’s wife and she wants bacon!

  • Episodes are between 5 and 12 minutes long or so.

  • Stories include Humpty Dumpty, Sleeping Beauty, Jack and Jill, Hansel and Gretel, Rumpelstiltskin, The Ugly Duckling, Rapunzel, The Boy Who Cried Wolf, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Pied Piper, The Frog Prince, The Big Bad Wolf’s - Three Little Pigs, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Snow White, Winnie-the-Pooh, and more.

    • Humpty Dumpty says why do you dress me as an egg! The story doesn’t say I’m an egg. The narrator says, you are right. Okay, what do you want to be then? Humpty Dumpty says, “A pelican.” And the King doesn’t want to wait for Humpty to change his clothes since Prince Charming is going to have a pajama party in 17 minutes! So the King leaves…Who is going to put Humpty back together again? You have to listen to know what happens next!

    • The Big Bad Wolf Swallowed a Fly - “No I didn’t!…” But then he does, and then experiences the swallowing story of swallowing a spider to catch the fly. The Big Bad Wolf crosses over a couple episodes - like Little Red Riding Hood, Christmas Crackers, and other pig episodes. So, it’s a fun reoccurring character.

3 Reasons It’s Our Favorite:

  1. Helps our kids go to bed while becoming very familiar with classic fables and stories - with smiles on their faces and giggles in their heart.

  2. Provides enrichment that shows how much fun it can be to transform a story just using dialogue and anthropomorphism.

  3. Our kids love it and share in enjoying listening and acting it out together.

How We Use It:

  1. We typically use it to help our children fall asleep at night. The podcast is so engaging that it really cuts down on the getting out of bed, asking for water, and etc. It occupies their minds really well.

  2. Our children, especially our 8-year-old asks to listen a lot. She loves to act it out at night right at bedtime and will sometimes call us into the room for the short show. Sometimes, each child takes a turn. It’s so adorable and they have the wit and humor of movement and gestures to go along with the fable. We laugh a lot together.

  3. Sometimes, during the day, my kids will do the same thing as at nighttime. They love performing for each other.
