Back to Homeschool? Here’s What You Actually Need
Whether you're brand new to homeschooling or heading into another year hoping for more structure and support, this is the season where everything starts to feel real. Curriculum catalogs are arriving, planners are popping up, and maybe you're second-guessing whether you've done enough to prepare.
Take a breath.
Let’s talk about what you actually need for a successful homeschool year—and what you don’t.
1. You Need a Mission (Not Just a Schedule)
Before choosing curriculum or planning your first week, it helps to ask:
Why are we homeschooling in the first place?
Your mission becomes your north star. It’ll guide your decisions, bring clarity when things get messy, and remind you what really matters when you're tempted to compare.
Need help crafting your homeschool mission?
Our Homeschool Starter Pack walks you through a simple process to write one that fits your family.
2. You Need a Flexible Plan (Not a Rigid Program)
The best homeschool plans are living, breathing things. You don’t need a color-coded hourly chart (unless that brings you joy). What you do need is a clear overview of what you want to learn, how you want to spend your days, and how to stay on track without burning out.
Our Starter Pack includes tools for:
Brainstorming your year
Identifying your child’s interests
Building a weekly or seasonal rhythm
Choosing curriculum that matches your values and goals
3. You Need a Place (Even if It’s the Kitchen Table)
There’s no “perfect homeschool room,” but it’s helpful to design a space that feels peaceful, personal, and practical for your family. Our tools will help you think through how your child learns best and how your home can support that—without a full remodel.
Tip: Sometimes a candle and a clean corner is all you need.
4. You Need Support (Hello, Co-Op!)
Whether you love teaching alongside others or just want your kids to build friendships, a homeschool co-op can bring connection, enrichment, and joy to your year. But not every co-op fits every family.
Our Homeschool Co-Op Pack includes:
A questionnaire to help you find the right co-op for your needs
Tools for building a co-op from scratch
Sample handbook, dues policies, and role descriptions
Community-building ideas and themed event inspiration
You don’t have to do it all alone. And you don’t have to join something that doesn’t fit.
5. You Need Encouragement (and a Little Grace)
Homeschooling isn’t just about educating our kids. It’s about growing ourselves. And some days? It’s just about showing up.
That’s why we included reflective tools in both of our packs to help you:
Identify your values
Celebrate small moments
Take care of you, too
Because the homeschool parent matters—a lot.
