Independent Activities Tip 3 - Mr. DeMaio

OnlineEducationalResources.jpg

Normally I will not use the LOL acronym. I just won’t. I won’t because I just don’t laugh out loud, almost never...but when we watch Mr. DeMaio, my kids and I totally LOL. My husband describes him with one word: “Hilarious.”

Who is Mr. DeMaio? Well, he’s only the funniest teacher on YouTube! At least to my kids, my husband, and me. Mr. DeMaio is an actual teacher, and so in his short videos he truly educates my children (and me as well, let’s be honest), while making us laugh. I wish he did stand-up, because I’d go see him.

From space, to weather, to history, to bugs, and monumental places, he provides a happy place full of silly jokes, pictures, puppets, and even himself. He even has worksheets available! If you are teaching a subject, you can search for his video about it. If you want to just say, “I need to get a lot of work done...how about you just watch Mr. DeMaio?” you can click on his station and have over an hour of laughing educational moments for your kids. You can pair it with your Art Studio and ask them to make art about one of the videos they watched. You can use it as a jumping off point for launching into a study about avalanches, or spiders, or the Great Wall of China.

Yes, there are a ton of YouTube resources. But, trust me. This one might be your elementary kids’ favorite. And...even if it’s not a favorite, at least you will all LOL.
